“THE VILLAGE IN THE CITY” – WAFAA AL GHATAM
During the growth of cities, villages are frequently absorbed into the fabric of such conurbations. But what are the consequences of this? What is the effect on the village and what is the effect on the wider city? These questions are addressed through the case of two closely related Bahraini cities, Manama and Muharraq.
This project aims to investigate how far spatial processes relating the spatial embedding pattern of the villages to the surrounding urban areas, can throw light on the different pathways of social development of the absorbed village configurations. The research used the most advance approach in Architecture Analysis, by using Space Syntax methodology and Theory through PHD thesis of Professor Wafa Al Ghatam and in collaboration with her students. مع النمو المتزايد للمدن، دائمًا ما تقوم القرى بتجرع هذا النسيج من التجمعات السكنية والمناطق المجاورة لها، ولكن ما هي النتائج المترتبة على ذلك؟ وكيف تتأثر القرى؟ وكيف تؤثر القرى فالمدن الكبيرة؟ يتطرق المعرض لهذه الأسئلة من خلال مدينتين ترتبطان ببعضهما ارتباطًا وثيقًا وهما المحرق والمنامة.ويهدف هذا المشروع للتحقيق في مدى العمليات المكانية المتعلقة نمط التضمين المكاني للقرى إلى المناطق الحضرية المحيطة بها، يلقي الضوء على مسارات مختلفةمن التنمية الاجتماعية لتكوينات القرى واستيعابها. ومن خلال هذه الأطروحة تستخدم البروفيسورة وفاء الغتم بالتعاون مع طلابها المنهج البحثي الأكثر تقدمًا في تحليل العمارة “منهجية المساحة ونظرياتها”.
